How Do I Consign to an Auction?

Garth's prides itself on being a full-service auction firm. Exceeding your selling expectations and connecting you to buyers all over the world is what drives our efforts daily. This has been the backbone of Garth's since 1954 and it continues...one auction at a time.

Consigning with Garth's is simple. Give us a call at 740.362.4771 to speak with a qualified consignment specialist or submit an online inquiry.

The consignment process begins with an informal evaluation of your items, timeline and needs. Estimates for working with us and, conservative expectations for your item(s) will always be provided up front. Once an agreement to consign is reached, Garth's is ready, willing and able to provide expert, professional staff to pack and transport your consignment. Garth's team travels all over the country to evaluate and pick up consignments. Our team will always provide a detailed receipt of the objects we accept for consignment; a pre-auction notification with descriptions and estimates; and, a complete reconciliation of the auction results with your settlement proceeds. Our no-nonsense terms do not include additional fees for photography, handling or online auction services. We strive for a simple, fair, straightforward and transparent experience for our sellers. We are currently conducting online only auctions.

Why Garth's?

For over 60 years, loyal clients have come back to Garth's for their buying and selling needs. Many have referred to us as "America's most trusted auction house," and we remain dedicated to preserving that reputation. Additionally, Garth's "high touch" customer service is legendary among our clients.

These are just a few of the reasons our clients choose Garth's:

  • Location: Midwest location means we operate with lower overhead than many of our competitors, allowing us to offer lower commissions to you. Additionally, when buyers reap the benefits of our central location through affordable travel and shipping costs, they can focus more of their spending power on bidding for your item(s). We are located within 550 miles of half of the country’s population, maximizing your exposure to a large pool of bidders for whom we are a convenient art, antiques and collectibles source.

  • Efficiency: With over two dozen auctions each year Garth’s accepts consignments of single pieces as well as lifetime collections. A consistent and full calendar of auctions means we can generally accommodate the sale of your item(s) within a reasonable period of time.

  • Integrity: We do not buy items for resale, and we do not bid at our auctions. This important distinction means that Garth's is always working on the right side of the transaction. We never try to negotiate a lower price with sellers, because our consignment agreement makes us a team focused on the same goal: achieving top dollar for your item(s) at auction. And, buyers never worry about the transparency of the bidding process. They trust that their bids will be executed faithfully and carefully, with no insider bidding. Buyers who trust their auction house will bid more.

  • Reach: With careful attention to the client experience, Garth's database of collectors, dealers and institutions has grown to more than 60,000 worldwide. Our auctions are published on multiple websites, reaching millions of potential buyers. Bidding is conducted simultaneously online and "in-the-saleroom," with live audio and video feeds for most events. An aggressive marketing and public relations strategy utilizes print ads, direct mail and social media to maximize the attention to your items.

  • Expertise: The care and attention we have given to growing our market share has also been applied to developing strong relationships with top experts in nearly every field, giving you access to the most knowledgeable, qualified individuals for the items you consign. By leveraging expertise both on staff and through our consultants, Garth's can offer you all the benefits of working with a large auction firm while maintaining a personal relationship with easy, direct access to every member of our team.

With each and every lot sold, Garth's demonstrates its experience in selling materials ranging from antique to contemporary furniture, fine art, folk art, jewelry, collectibles, firearms, dolls, toys, historic materials, American Indian items, Oriental rugs, glass, real estate and more. As such, Garth’s is poised to successfully promote any collection whether you are parting with one item or a lifetime's collection.

Savvy sellers understand that another important factor in selecting an auction company is the firm’s ability to offer a quality selling venue – a venue that is trusted by bidders, that conducts thorough research, and is communicative and available at all times to its sellers. A successful auction company incorporates an aggressive, impactful marketing and public relations strategy, and stays focused on maximizing seller results.

Garth’s is just that.
